If you are a first time dog owner, you'll want to start on the right path to your puppy's success. Not only will this be stress-free for you but for puppy as well - because a well-trained puppy is a happy family. Here we are, the potty conundrum that baffles most people. Some say it's hard, some say it's easy, but the truth is -- it's neither. The ability of the pup to catch on is the key to potty and crate training. You, on the other hand will only need full perseverance, patience, and motivation. It takes effort to raise a well-mannered puppy and you are the key to its success.
Sam Ivy k-9 Consultants have provided us an infographic that basically sums up how you can approach the potty and crate training process for you puppy. This is only for informational purposes and you are more than free to try out other techniques as well. I am only utilizing this process mainly because of the fact that it worked for my puppy's potty and crate training. If you decide to stick to this schedule, I suggest that you stick to it. Your puppy will whine and cry to be let out of the crate and you must ignore. It sounds horrendous and inhumane but this is the way they learn that whining and crying does not get them attention. Remember, dogs love to please their humans and ignoring the dog when it's whining and crying means they are not pleasing you.
I remember having my first Siberian Husky and the crate training and potty training didn't go well for her because I have decided to not forego with the crate. I gave in to it's whining and crying and decided to let it sleep beside me on the bed. Boy was I wrong. There's nothing wrong with letting puppy sleep on the bed, but it's never an excuse not to crate train. If you were to ask me, crate training should be a necessity because if you leave the dog alone at home, you'll want them to be in their crate safe and sound and not ruining the entire house.
In addition to this schedule, you will need to utilize treats. A clicker would work too if you please, but again is not necessary but highly recommended. You can grab several at Amazon for $5.99 for a set of 4 that comes in various colors.
